Getting Started
Wallets
To get started in with collecting and inscribing, you will need a wallet to hold bitcoin and inscriptions. Those coming from "smart" chains like Ethereum and Solana will find the onboarding process similar to that of Metamask or Phantom.
The most popular wallets for diving into Ordinals include:
Xverse: Browser-based wallet for Bitcoin, Ordinals, and Stacks (a smart contract L2 for Bitcoin). Includes native Ledger support and a mobile wallet app. Also has native detection for rare/exotic sats.
Leather: Browser-based wallet with support for Bitcoin, Ordinals, Stamps, and Stacks.
Phantom: A cross-chain, browser-based wallet with support for Bitcoin/Ordinals, Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon.
NOTE: The above wallets use separate addresses for Bitcoin and Ordinals. If you end up using them, BTC should only ever be sent to the Bitcoin address and Ordinals/inscriptions/rare sats/BRC-20 tokens should only ever be sent to the Ordinals/Taproot address. Rest assured assets can be recovered should you accidentally send one to the opposing address in your wallet, though it can be a pain to do have to do so.
Sparrow Wallet is the go-to choice for more technical-forward users or those looking for a great level of control of their bitcoin/satoshis. The Ordinals Handbook has a guide for setting up Sparrow wallet for Ordinals. We do not recommend Sparrow for first-time users or those new to Bitcoin.
Marketplaces
There are a number of marketplaces that exist for Ordinals, brc-20 tokens, rare sats, and more. The most popular for art-based works include:
Magic Eden: Analogous to Opensea/Blur for Bitcoin. Highly generalized, the most volume, and has a little bit of everything. Does not acknowledge royalties.
Gamma: Analogous to Foundation/SuperRare on Bitcoin. Art-first and focused platform for digital artists to release their work on Bitcoin and Stacks. Gamma honors secondary artist royalties.
Art Platforms
Curated art platforms are slowly emerging on Ordinals. An overview of them include:
Singular (us!) focused on chain-native generative art on Bitcoin. We offer both a series of curated releases with new artists as well as a technical offering for artists/projects to release their own projects.
Counterfeit: Beginning with curated card-based releases from a wide range of both Bitcoin-native and Ethereum-artists coming to Bitcoin, Counterfeit is building an art-focused platform for those looking to release on Bitcoin.
Gamma: Apart from their marketplace mentioned above, Gamma also has a selective Partner Artist program for additional release features and support.
Quadrillion: Focused on experiences, the first release featured 21 artists releasing their work on Bitcoin through their Perpetuals exhibition.
Inscribing Tools
If you find yourself want to inscribe works on your own or try out inscribing for the first time, most marketplaces support inscribing. For inscribing-first tools, some examples are:
GenerateOrd: Tool for generative PFP-esque collections using top-notch recursion.
OrdinalsBot: Generalized, highly customizable platform for inscribing works a wide range of types of Ordinals.
Sat Hunting/Collecting
If you find yourself wanting to collect rare/exotic sats or acquiring some to inscribe work on, some great platforms are:
